Make a Card with Silhouette SD

This card is especially dear to me as I did it almost entirely with the silhouette, my computer, and my printer! I used absolutely no papers on this one other than my ordinary Staples 110 pound white cardstock (not counting the card itself and the envelope)

Pumpkin Baby Thank You Card

I started with my silhouette studio software and opened the Pumpkin Baby digital stamp I purchased at Karen's Doodles and re-sized it to fit a 5×7 card. I made sure I set up the registration marks on the Silhouette in order to cut out the stamp later. The next step was to print it on white cardstock and colour it with Prismacolor pencils and blended with Sansodor. I used copics on the pumpkin's darker shade and the dark green on the leaves and blended with the clear copic pen. Back to my computer and the silhouette, I stuck my finished drawing to the mat and fed it into the silhouette. On the computer, I did an outline tracing of pumpkin baby in order to get the cutting line. I find it much easier to make a blacked out version in Photoshop and use it to trace the drawing. You have to make sure you align it with the drawing perfectly without moving it or it won't cut in the right spot. That done, go ahead and detect your registration marks and cut your drawing. I then highlighted my pumpkin with stickles and set it aside to dry. Continue reading

Silhouette SD

After careful consideration, I decided to return my Cricut Imagine to Costco.  Almost $500 for the machine and 5 carts later, I decided this wasn’t the smartest move I ever made.  The machine is so limited as to what you can do with it, in my opinion, it’s a total waste of money.  To replace the Imagine, I went out and bought a Silhouette cutter and, after using it almost steady for the last two months, I’m of the opinion it’s the best move I ever made!!!!  :-)

A Tweety Bird-day!

I have five birthdays coming up in the next couple of weeks so I’m scrambling to make some cards that will have special meaning for the recipient.

Tweey Birthday Card

The first card is for a friend who is far away but is thought about often.  He was responsible for getting the doctor who performed my last two back surgeries and got me out of a lengthy stay in a wheel chair and home-care.  After I was able to get around on my own again, we used to go to various wrestling and country music events together  (He has a wrestling magazine and we published a country music magazine together for a while).  In our travels, he used to buy me lots of “Tweety” souvenirs…..  hence the Tweety b-day card.

Thanks Wolfgang!

Tweey Birthday Card - 2

I used a coloring page from coloringpages101.com for Tweety and coloured him with prismacolour pencils, blending with Sansodor. I should also mention that I added the green border around the Tweety graphic in Photoshop.  I also designed the tag and the sentiment with photoshop, printed it out and then inked the edge.

I made the light green mat with the border with my gypsy and my cricut.  I used two lace borders from Cindy Loo and a rectangle from Accent Essentials and welded them together.  The Gypsy has already saved me lots of money, saving me from buying punch out borders and lace.  A wonderful little gadget!

Outlined the graphic with various colours of Studio glitter glue as well as in the flower centres.  The paper, ribbon and card are from my stash.

Friendship Card

A Friend is Someone Who Makes it Easy

A card I made for my stash.  The sentiment is from Stampin’ Up and the digi stamp is from Precious Moments Coloring Book pages.  I’ve been finding some really cool pics for my cards just using coloring book pages.  They can be used as long as you’re not selling the product you use it on.

Recipe:
Sentiment: Stampin’ Up
Scalloped Frame: Cricut Elegant Edges Cart
The rest is from my stash

Truly Bored!

There’s a very simple explanation for the title to this post – I hurt my knee and I’m having trouble sitting with my knee bent for any length of time.  Hence, very minimal scrapbooking!

I knew I had done some damage to my knee when I was carrying a heavy laundry basket (full of scrapbooking paper and cardstock packs) up the basement stairs to my new scrapbooking room on the main floor.  I felt a very sharp pain at the back of my knee and the pain just became worse as the days passed.  I had volunteered to host our monthly coffee morning so I hoped I could just get through the 18th without canceling, which I did do…. barely!  I was at the hospital emergency ward less than an hour after everyone left!  LOL Continue reading

Getting the most out of your mats for the Cricut Cutters

Here’s a little tip I picked up somewhere on the web.

After buying so many products that were supposed to renew your mats I almost gave up until I found this little tip (I can’t remember where to give the proper credit but just wanted you to know it wasn’t my idea).  Get some liquid re-positionable paper adhesive (I use Royal Coat but there are many brands out there).  I mix equal parts glue and water (you don’t need much for one mat).  Then I use a sponge brush and brush evenly on the green part of the mat.  I usually go over the mat twice and then let it dry overnight.  It will be very tacky so make sure you pat it with your hands a few times before you use it to lessen the tackiness a bit.  If it is too tacky, dilute your glue with a little more water at the next application.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge

I made this card for this week’s Truly Scrumptious challenge.  With my gypsy, Cricut Expressions and the Elegant Edges cart, I welded together the 4th edge (scallop2) using the book button with both the shift and non-shift positions to make a card that is 5 1/4″ square with a nice scalloped edge.

I also cut a second mat with the EE cart using just the book shadow and sizing it to fit on the inside page of the card.  This gives the card a nice contrast where the scallops are.

I used a digital coloring book page of the Precious Moments Lovebirds which I sized for the card and colored with Copic markers.  I decided not to use foam squares under the stamp because the cards already had enough dimension what with all the layers.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge Card

Supplies for the Card:

  • Staples 110 lb white cardstock
  • Recollections Elegance paper
  • Colorbok Textured Cardstock
  • Offray Ribbon
  • Stamp from Paper Studio
  • Lovebird clipart from Precious Moments Digital coloring book
  • Copic Markers
  • Faux pearls from Recollections
  • Flowers from Sandylion Essentials
  • Ink from Stampin’ Up

Cricut Expression

After doing my article on the Imagine, I thought I should do one on the Expression as well.  This machine is absolutely super for scrapbooking!

Cricut Expression The Expression uses cricut cartridges (the Imagine carts don’t work in the Expression) as well the the Design Studio software made by PC and Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) from Craft Edge.  If anyone knows of other software that can be used, please let me know.

The Design Studio software works with the Cricut carts and is basically the same software used by the gypsy.  The advantage to using this software is your screen size is as big as your monitor allows.  The disadvantage is you have to insert your carts when you want to cut.  You are also limited to working with only the cartridges. Cricut Imagine

So I broke down and got the Cricut Imagine machine last month.  It seemed like a great idea since it can print and cut…..  Now I’m not so sure I should have spent all that money.

Cricut Imagine It’s definitely nice to be able to print and cut but unfortunately there are so many cons to this machine it’s frankly better to use an ordinary printer and cut the objects yourself.  The Imagine brings you back to the original Cricut where you couldn’t move your cutter blade to different scraps of paper on your mat, saving piles of time.  You can’t use the design software on the Imagine and, as far as I’m concerned, the gypsy is pretty useless when it comes to the Imagine as well. David’s Scrapbook (First 3 Pages)

As promised a month ago, I’m finally adding the 3 scrapbook pages I made for David’s (my best friend – you’ll probably be seeing the name often in my posts).  They are actually the first pages I’ve ever done so please be kind if they look a little amateurish!!!!  I start scrapbooking lessons on Tuesday.

David's Album - Page 01 David's Album - Page 02

The first two pages are done with a set I found for Father’s Day which I thought was appropriate.  I added a few embellishments as well from KC & Company.  I cut the pictures on my Cricut.  I still haven’t mastered printing neatly which I hope I do soon!  I’ve noticed most scrapbookers have such nice handwriting and I hope someone will let me in on the secret!

David's Album - Page 03

The last page was done from scratch.  I thought actually cutting out a couple of the pics looked quite effective on the page.
